- Centre bans Letrozole
- Centre has banned the manuracture, sale and distribution of 'Letrozole' for induction of Ovulation in anovulatory infertility.
- The use of Letrozole involves risk for human beings and safer alternatives to the drug are available in the market
- It has been suspended under the drugs and cosmetics act.
- FAO to study alternatives to endosulfan particle
- The persistent Organic pollution Review committee of the stockholm convention has called FAO to undertake studies on integrated pest management alternatives to endosulfan
- The committee which met in Geneva, resolved to create an adhoc group to review and identify information gaps on alternatives to endosulfan and to assess those alternatives.
- The chair agreed that the committee would assess the characteristics as well as other unwanted properties but underscored that the individual countries would have to assess the local suitability of the alteranatives
- Operation Thunderbolt
- In an operation of Jharkand and Chattisgarh police named 'Operation Thunderbolt' arms and ammunitions were seized from the maoist members
- Interlocutors for talks with Maoists to Mamata today
- The interlocutors are to brief the chief minister on the Maoist offer of a month long truce on condition that the joint security operations are suspended against them.
- The state government has come up with the condition to lay down the arms for peace talks to continue.
- Centre's multi winged plan to tackle terrorism
- The UPA government has chalked out a multi winged operation to tackle the problem of Naxalism.
- Techincal help from the army has also been asked for the plan
- The initial plan is made for Saranda forest region in Jharkand.
- The central action plan entails a expenditure of Rs. 325 crores, besides the budgetary allocation under various heads covering the 56 villages in the six panchayats in the saranda area.
- The plan includes free distribution of bicycles, solar lanterns and transistors to 7000 families and 200 hand pumps.
- The Jharkand government would do a survey to bring them all under the BPL and to include them under the Indra Awas Yojana, give them land pattas for up to four acres of land and provide old age pension.

- Nepal PM to seek Indian support for peace process
- In his visit to India, Nepal PM's primary agenda will be to solicit Indian support and goodwill to complete the peace process and write the constitution.
- Dr. Bhattarai will also convey Nepal's sensitivity to Indian security concerns and reiterate the commitment that 'anit Indian activists' will not be allowed in their country.
- Nepal will also raise the issue of huge trade imbalances and seek more economic investment.
- Agreement on import of 200 MW of power from India and Indian support to infrastructure projects are expected.
- Fauja Ali, a 100 year old runner of Indian origin, has set a guiness world record of being the oldest person to complete a full distance marathan.
- This is his 8th marathon with the first one being at the age of 89.
