- ICMR may study the link between endosulfan and birth deformities
- The State government has requested the Indian Council of Medical Research to study the co-relation, if any, between endosulfan and deformity at birth
- No trying of juveniles under normal law
- The Supreme Court on Wednesday refused to reduce the age of juvenile from 18 to 16 and dismissed a plea that minors involved in heinous crimes not be protected under the law.
- Cabinet nod for mountain strike corps along china border
- The Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) on Wednesday gave its in-principle approval to the Army’s ambitious proposal to raise a mountain strike corps along the China border.
- The strike corps is expected to cost Rs. 62,000 crore, spread over the entire 12th Plan (2012-17)
- The Army is learnt to have proposed raising a mountain strike corps, two independent infantry brigades and two independent armoured brigades to take care of its operational gaps along the entire line of actual control (LAC) with China.
- The proposed strike corps, with about 45,000 soldiers and headquartered at Panagarh in West Bengal, will also give India the capability to launch offensive action in Tibet Autonomous Region (TAR) in the event of a Chinese offensive. India has also got two infantry divisions at Lekhapani and Missamari in Assam, which were raised in 2009-10 to take care of operational needs in Arunachal Pradesh.
- International expertise for restoring classics
- The Centre is mulling international expertise to assist the National Film Archives of India in its efforts to preserve the country’s cinematic heritage.
- Under the National Film Heritage Mission, the government is making efforts to digitise the movies of yesteryears to ensure that they are not lost forever.
- Centre to plan fight against child marriage
- With India’s report card for States still continuing to register a high prevalence of child marriage – Bihar 64 per cent, Jharkhand 60.2 per cent, Rajasthan 58.4 per cent, Chhattisgarh 50.5 per cent and Andhra Pradesh 56.2 per cent – as per the Union Ministry of Women and Child Development’s (WCD) own assessment, the Ministry has now called upon various stake holders to work together to halt this worrying trend.
- The Ministry is also looking at building skills and giving both girls and boys access to quality education and health care facilities to ensure that they are encouraged to stay away from early marriage.

- RBI to hold special repo auction to help MF's
- The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) said on Wednesday that it would provide liquidity to banks to meet the liquidity requirements of mutual funds. The mutual funds are now facing redemption pressures from investors.
- As a contingency measure, the RBI has decided to conduct a special three-day repo auction at an interest rate of 10.25 per cent for a notified amount of Rs.25,000 crore with a view to enabling banks to meet the liquidity requirements of mutual funds
