  • China plays down travel advisory row with India
    • Chinese officials and the State media have played down differences with India ahead of External Affairs Minister S.M. Krishna's arrival here on Tuesday, calling for increased mutual trust and rejecting media reports of an advisory to Chinese citizens against travelling to India

  • Chidambaram rules out frontier Nagaland
    • Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram on Monday reportedly assured Nagaland Chief Minister Nephiu Rio of assistance for the speedy development of Eastern Nagaland, but ruled out creation of a separate State — Frontier Nagaland — out of four border districts as demanded by the Eastern Nagaland People's Organisation (ENPO).
    • The ENPO has been demanding creation of ‘Frontier Nagaland' out of Mon, Tuensang, Kiphire and Longleng districts. It submitted a memorandum to the Prime Minister in 2010, saying only a separate State for six tribes, inhabiting the frontier areas, would result in socio-economic development in the border region.

  • Marking the onset of monsoon
    • The north Karnataka region is famous for its colourful and unique festivals. Kara Hunnime is one such event, which farmers celebrate with great enthusiasm. The festival, marking the end of summer and the onset of monsoon, is celebrated on a full moon day in June. This year, it was celebrated on Monday.

  • Delhi metro to tap solar power
    • Delhi's new age transport system is going green, with the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation planning to tap solar power in some of its facilities. The initiative announced to coincide with the World Environment Day, will help generate renewable energy and reduce DMRC's dependence on non-renewable sources of power.
