  • Iran agrees to accept payment in rupee
    • Both India and Iran have agreed to accept payment in rupee form, a move that could unlock huge sums pending on both sides
    • “The payment problem with Iran has been resolved with operationalisation of the rupee payment mechanism through UCO Bank
    • Following the resolution of the payment issue, the Indian business delegation will be able to negotiate new contracts with their Iranian counterparts. The Directorate-General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) has also agreed to grant all benefits to exports for which the payment is received in rupee

  • Bangalore city station boast of bluefi
    • The Bangalore City Railway Station on Friday became the first in the railway network to offer BluFi, a combination of Bluetooth and Wi-Fi that will provide passengers with a wealth of information.
    • The facility was launched by Railtel Corporation of India in collaboration with TeleBrahma, a mobile advertising solutions provider
    • To get Internet access, passengers should send their mobile numbers through the Wi-Fi registration portal. The passwords would be sent through SMS. A passenger could use Internet for 45 minutes; if he wished to continue, he had to start a fresh session.

  • SIAM flays move to cut duty on car imports from EU
    • The Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) has lashed out at the Government for preparing the ground to cut duties on imported vehicles from Europe while seeking to impose additional taxes on diesel cars.
    • The trade imbalance in the automotive sector was in favour of the EU. During 2010-11, EU was already exporting around $3.4 billion worth of cars as completely built units (CBUs) and completely knocked down units (CKDs), against India's exports of $1.7 billion worth of cars.
