NATIONAL NEWS
  • NRI's to get right to vote; pension fund for overseas workers: PM
    • PM promised the right of franchisee for those who have registered under the representation of people act 1950.
    • A new pension and life insurance scheme was also introduced for those Indian workers, to enable them to voluntarily save for their return and resettlement.
    • Trinidad and Tobago PM Kamla Piersad Bissessar is the chief guest at the on going three day festival at parvasi bhartiya divas
    • PM promised a bill which would be introduced in the parliament to merge and streamline the PIO and overseas citizen of India schemes by amending the citizenship act.
    • Dr. Singh also opened a website of the India development foundation of the overseas India (IDFOI), a trust under the aegis of the ministry of overseas Indian affairs to provide a credible window for overseas indian philantrophy for the social development of the country.
    • Rajastan chief minister launched a “Know your Rajastan”(Apne Rajastan ko Janiye) programme

  • Stage set for expansion of domain names.
    • The global web address regime is to be expanded for new generic top level domain names(gTLD) the concluding part of a web address that follows like .com,.org etc
    • The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers(ICANN) the global body that oversees the operation and administration of the Internet domain name is set to accept applications soon.
    • Any established public or private organisation anywhere in the world can submit applications to create and operate a new gTLD registry.
    • At present two types of TLDs are in operation like gTLDs like .com,.org and ccTLDs like country code top level domains .in, .uk
    • India and China are expected to play an important role; India especially with the NGOs being higly energised by the new gTLD process, primarily owing to the efforts of the Public Interest Registry (PIR) that has declared its intention to apply for a .ngo domain(PIR is the owner of .ORG domain)
