NATIONAL NEWS
  • CII holds summit on Brand India in Bangalore
    • National quality summit on the theme 'Creating brand India through Quality' was organised by the CII to refocus on building brand India
  • Carcasses of Oliver Ridley turtles found near Rushikulya rookery in Ganjam district of Odisha
    • The locals attributed this to the unchecked activity of fishing trawlers in that area.
    • The Rushikulya rookery coast is one of the major nesting sites for the oliver ridley turtles.
    • The trawlers were allegedly not using the Trawler excluding device.
    • They are an endangered species

  • Gopal Gandhi to be the chairman of Kalakshetra foundation
    • Former governor of west bengal has been appointed as the chairman of the Kalakshetra foundation.

  • Silver coins of Nizam area found.
    • About 100 silver coins of the Nizam period with the charminar engraved on it is found in a old dilapidated building in the Mahububnagar district of Andhra Pradesh.

  • Distinction for India at Bonn
    • India goes in to the Bonn conference as the only country to have signed a security pact with Afganistan.
    • The conference has three themes, “Managing the transition as the west prepares to pull back the bulk of its forces”, “The political process that ought to be fashioned”, “The long term engagement of the foreign countries in Afganistan”.
    • India has come a long way from being kept out of the last years conference to be a major player.
    • Recently an Indian consortium has been given the mining rights, to the regions untapped iron ore deposits, south west of Kabul.
    • India has also agreed to train the Afghan security personnel.
    • India has got 3 out of the 4 Hajigak mine blocks, which is actually a packaged deal of producing semi finished products from the ore, a power plant, and evacuation routes.

  • Nuclear safety matter of highest security
    • The union cabinet committee on security has once again stressed the importance of the safety of nuclear power plants, as a matter of highest priority for the government.
    • Government has planned to invite an operational safety team from the international atomic energy agency to assist in conducting safety reviews and audits of the nuclear installations across the country.
  • SAIL chief awarded the CEO of the year by the Indian Institute of Material management for his contributions in the area of supply chain management.
