NATIONAL NEWS
  • Foreign secretaries review relations.
    • The foreign secretaries of both India and Pakistan met in addu atoll ahead of the SAARC standing committee meeting.
    • They reviewed the status of the bilateral relations with a view to carry forward the dialogue.
  • Switzerland shares data with India
    • More than a year after the two countries signed a bilateral treaty, Switzerland has started sharing banking and tax related information with India
    • This information is expected to pave the way for bringing black money stashed abroad.

  • Indian ocean RIM nations to discuss security
    • A conference of the Indian ocean Rim Association for Regional cooperation (IOR-ARC) will start in Bangalore.
    • India will take over from yemen as the chair of the IOR-ARC for the next two years.
    • The main aim of the conference is to review the administrative arrangement for the IOR-ARC fund.
    • A bangalore declaration will be adopted and an official IOR-ARC website will be launched.
    • It is planning to review the latest status of the launch and operationalisation of the maritime transport council in Oman.
    • The committee is also likely to consider and adopt the recommendations of the Committee of Senior Officials of Rim academic group and draft statue of the regional centre of science and technology transfer located in iran.
  • Cambridge university project on rare sanskrit manuscripts
    • Some 2000 sanskrit manuscripts detailing momentous political and economic events across south asia and written on a fragile birch bark are to form a major research project of Cambridge university
    • They will also be digitised and put in the university's new online library.
