NATIONAL NEWS
- China warns India against providing a platform for the Dalai Lama
- India had recently postponed talks with China on the border issue that were supposed to be held in Delhi. It later surfaced that the issue had cropped up as the Dalai Lama was addressing the global buddhist congregation in Delhi to commemorate the 2600th year of enlightenment of the buddha;
- China had conveyed a message that it was against any country for providing a platform for the Dalai lama to conduct anti-china activities. India had however said that the meeting was religious and not political, but China did not accept the view;
- It is interesting to note that the Dalai Lama says that he does not seek independence for Tibet but wants China to give Tibetians genuine autonomy in religious, cultural and educational spheres.
- Supreme Court bases a judgment saying that Civil Courts can execute lok adalat awards
- Every award of a lok adalat, including an order recording a settlement between the parties is deemed to be a civil court order and is executable by a civil court said the Supreme court in a recent ruling;
- The powers of the Lok adalat are provided in the Legal Services Authorities Act. The Supreme Court held that the same principle would apply even in the case where a criminal court were to refer a matter to the lok adalat and such matter once the order was passed by the lok adalat would be treated as a decree of a civil court.
