NATIONAL NEWS
  • Manmohan – Gilani meet
    • India announced a trade related confidence building measure to match Pakistan according the MFN status to it.
    • India has agreed for a preferential trade agreement with Pakistan.
    • A new liberalised Visa regime would also be implemented soon.
    • The prime ministers also agreed to revive the joint commission which have not met once in six years.
  • Army raises seccession spectre to counter plans to life AFSPA
    • The army's top commander said that the country would be compelled to give grant state independence by 2016 if AFSPA is lifted.

  • India at SAARC
    • Manmohan Singh called up all the countries to intensify trade with all the countries in order to beat the global melt down.
    • India had reduced the sensitive list for least developed countries from 480 tariff lines to 28 lines. Zero basic customs duty access would be given to every item removed.
    • Dr. Singh suggested giving priority to regional railway agreement and motor vehicle agreement.

    • The aim of this policy would be to unleash a second wave of reforms.
