  • India spending feverishly on health care.
    • A new study on out of pocket expenditure in the health sector has revealed a four fold increase in hospitalized care and two fold increase in non hospitalized care.
    • The survey was done in Rajastan, Assam, Jharkand, Uttrakand and Tamil nadu.
    • India has the 42nd highest out of pocket expenditure in the world.

  • Job's for three lakh youths in Naxal hit areas.
    • Apart from appointing 18,000 panchayat officers and as many junior engineers, the central government has drawn a blue print to provide 3 lakh jobs in the 60 Naxal affected districts.
    • This is a part of the Integrated Action Plan (IAP) for those districts.
    • For better implementation of the MGNREGS, each panchayat will be appointed with a Panchayat development officer and a Junior engineer for a period of 10 years.
    • The cost will be shared in the 75:25 ration between the centre and the states.
  • India leads in rotavirus infection deaths :Lancet
    • Nearly one lakh people die of rotavirus infection accounting to almost 22% of the total deaths reported.
    • Five countries (India, Pakistan, Ethiopia, Congo, Nigeria account to more than half of the total deaths.
  • Health minister suggests setting up a GOM for Japanese encephalities.
    • Acute encephalities Syndrome (AES) can be addressed only through a multi pronged approach and need interventions from ministries of drinking water and sanitation, Social Justice and empowerment, and women and child development.
