  • New policy rings in free roaming
    • The draft national Telecom policy 2011 will remove national roaming charges, make broadband available for demand, bring in a one nation, one licence policy and allow mobile numbers to be ported to any part of the country
    • It proposes to afford the telecom industry the status of a infrastructure sector helping it get easy credit flow for funding roll out plan or extension.
    • The telecom operators would not require separate licence for operations in various parts of the country, and a single licence across the country would suffice.
  • SRM University's satellite to take to the skies
    • SRMSAT, the first ever private satellite by an Indian private university is to be launched in to space in the PSLV – C18
    • SRMSAT is a Nano satellite designed to monitro the green house gases, carbon dioxide, water vapour in the tropics using a grating spectrometer.
    • PSLV- C18 will also carry the Indo – French satellite Megha Tropiques

  • Joint group to work on India – Sri lanka fishing issues
    • The India – Srilanka joint working group will meet to sort out the fishing issues between the two countries.
    • The Indian government has also promised to take up repair work of the 79 damaged schools in the Northern war ravaged areas of Sri Lanka
  • Russia China to Sign pact on technological modernisation.
    • Russia and China would sign a sweeping cooperation pact on technological modernisation, which might have far reaching implications for India's relationship with Russia.
    • Problems in getting high end technologies from the west and the impressive economic progress made by China are the major reasons for Russia for agreeing the terms.
